Cedric Yelding Sr. enters his first season as the head coach of the Sun Chiefs women’s basketball program. Yelding spent the past 2 years as the assistant coach to the Sun Chief women basketball program. Yelding spent the previous 23 seasons as a high school varsity boys’ coach. Yelding won over 314 games as a varsity head coach. Yelding’s teams consistently competed for area championships and post season play. Yelding was inducted into the Daphne High School Hall of Fame in September 2020 (Coach). Yelding was a standout Hall of Fame point guard at South Alabama during the 1989-1993 seasons, Yelding still currently holds 3 all-time records in the Jags record books. Yelding was inducted into the South Alabama Hall of Fame in 2007 (Player). Yelding is married to Phyllis Yelding of 27 years and they have 2 children, Amber and Cedric Jr. The Yelding’s also have a 7-year-old grandson Caden James Yelding. Yelding is grateful for the opportunity to be able to lead the Sun Chief women’s basketball program.
